Horst was born in Germany August 14th 1906. As a teen he was interested in avante-garde art and went to Paris to study. In 1930 he met Vogue photographer George Honningen-Huene and became his lover. Horst began his association with Vogue that year and published his first photograph in the November French edition.
Horst is best known for his fashion photography, but is also recognized for his photographs of interior architecture and still lifes. His career spanned sixty years between 1931 and 1991, during which time his name and work became legendary. His work is included in countless publications and dozens of exhibitions including a current at the National Portrait Gallery in Washington DC.
