Gordon Parks
Gordon Parks was born in Fort Scott Kansas on November 30th 1912. He started out at the age of 25 buying a used Voightlander camera from a pawnshop. He moved to Chicago where over the next several years he went from job to job photographing portraits and elegant women. Gordon's interest than shifted to photographing the city's south side black ghetto.
The work ended awarding him a fellowship position with the FSA in 1941. One of his most famous works he is known for is American Gothic, inspired from the famous painting. Upon moving to Harlem in 1944 he got a job as a freelance fashion photographer for Vogue. In 1948 Parks wrote an essay on harlem gang leader which landed him a job for the next 20 years with Life magazine. he is also known for doing film work. On March of 2006 Gordon Parks passed away of cancer. He was 93.
