Some of what I hope to be doing....

For my projects this semester I'd like to really venture out of what we learned in class and incorporate different and fun techniques in the photo making process...one of the various things I'd like to do is Sabattier or Solarisation.

Daniel Beltra is an assignment photographer for Green Peace , working principally on Conservation Photography. A member of theInternational leage of Photographers, Beltra has won the Prince's Rainforrest project(PRP) award at the Sony world Photography awards and the inaugural "Global Vision Award" from the Pictures of the year international . In 2006 his work on the Amazon Drought won 3rd prize in the World press pohoto awards nature Series category, as well as the Golden Award in the China press international Photo Contest. His career started with photos of bombings by the Basque separatist organization Euskadi Ta Askatasuna (ETA) while he was a student at theComplutense Univerity of Madrid. what i like about this photographer is that he working toward an environmental solution by depicting our deminishing rainforrests.

Ezra Stoller - Architectural Photographer #2

As many of you may already know I really enjoy architectural photography. As I was browsing through some of my favorite galleries websites I came across this exhibition of work by Ezra Stoller at Yossi Milo Gallery in New York.

Stoller's work includes images from many famous buildings commissioned by the architects (including some of my favorite architects: Frank Lloyd Wright, I.M. Pei, & Paul Rudolph) all in black and white (most of the work from the 40's-60's).

I wish I could live in any and/or all of his images.

hey if anyone is still looking to buy a camera, there is a pawn shop downtown aurora, close to the train station called arenkills pawn shop, that has a larger variety of 35mm camera and lenses. It is a iffy part of town but other than that, they have a good selection.

One of my favorite photographers is Irving Penn. I could go on and on about why I like him so much...but I won't.

My top 3 reasons are as follows;

Penn used a large format camera.

He was simple and that he used a little props as he could and still make a picture dramatic.

He shot for Vogue, one of my favorite magazines.

Analog - The last one out, please turn the light on

I recently read this article from Wired about the vanishing commercial darkrooms in London. It makes me a little nostalgic for the time that I had a color darkroom with two enlargers setup in a little room in the basement. Most darkrooms were not that pretty but I prefer a traditional contact sheet to a digital laser print any day. Take a look, there is also a nice interview with the artist (Richard Nicholson) about the work.
